Dunno about red flags,but if something is poorly edited it won't allow the reader 2 read cohesively,clearly. Reader will get stuck on bits that don't make sense,that are superfluous,that clash,that don't flow smoothly. Storylines that don't work. Awful undeveloped characters, poor grammar,spelling.
This is one of the main storylines in S.N.U.F.F., by Victor Pelevin, so if you like that idea you should definitely read that novel 🖤🖤

Weirdly despite this the dwarves are one of the storylines im invited in (cos normally it would really bug the shit out of me but I think cos its fantasy I can just go with 'the dwarves have an accent that coincidently resembles a bad Scottish accent' and leave it at that.
