Hey I'd rather receive subsidies then subsidize. Put that in Orinda's plus column

🔟 Instead, the IMF rebranded externalities as "subsidies" and in so doing has caused enormous confusion. One victim of that confusion has been terminology. In economics and international law, terms like "subsidies" have — or should have — well-defined meanings.

9⃣ Their message could have been simply that: cite both actual subsidies AND the trillions of dollars in damage to the environment & human health annually as justification for raising fossil fuel prices in some countries and levying new or higher pollution and carbon taxes in most countries.

6⃣ So, even though 99% of what concerns the IMF is related to fossil-fuel CONSUMPTION, many look no further than the IMF's headline numbers and assume they represent $$ directly going to the FF industry. Mike Hudema (Director, Impact Communications) weekly posts tweets on X like this one:

I dunno man farmers are so entrenched. So many subsidies and legal carve outs. The entire ag sector is distorted and broken and there are a lot of people getting crazy rich on the current system. They are insanely powerful and they like it how it currently is. Don’t see it changing.

I do not think so. Saying you can't have additionality rules because we have clogged interconnection queues is too convenient. Solve the latter and the former becomes a lot easier. Hydrogen needs strict rules because 1) it gets huge subsidies and 2) we're trying to reduce GHGs.

I’m surprised people are surprised. Isn’t it a well known fact that aviation fuel is not taxed bc of international agreements. One of the many hidden subsidies to fossil fuels.

I can understand why Lib Dems have tactically voted against this, they represent some of the wealthiest constituencies in the country. But I totally disagree with it. Private school tax exemptions are state subsidies and an anomaly of our system.

It’s gonna get real unpopular again if the subsidies aren’t renewed in congress lol
