@XHNews: "Ultimately, tariffs won't help anyone, they will only harm European consumers, who will lose out, as well as the countries themselves," said Hrvoje Prpic, president of the Croatian Electric Vehicle Drivers Association. https://t.co/kiHF695yZf
Imagine that there are some goods we don't want to make, and others that we do, and want to sell overseas. But suddenly that is very difficult because we are in the middle of a trade war. It's not that tariffs are good or bad, but they are not the solution to US problems Trump paints them to be.
Ireland voted for big new tariffs (up to 35%) on Chinese EVs in the EU. Germany has described it as potentially “a fatal blow” to the struggling EV market here www.independent.ie/business/eu-...
European Union countries have voted to impose tariffs on electric vehicles imported from China, despite a risk to Irish diary and other food exports if the country counters with its own trade penaltie...
Trump can’t even get basic facts right. McKinley was in Congress in the 1880’s and 1890 when they passed the McKinley tariffs (which were wildly unpopular btw and caused huge price hikes for consumers and led to electoral defeats for Republicans). McKinley wasn’t elected as POTUS until 1896.
As much as I hate to say it, there is a small, tenuous, connection between tariffs and McKinley’s assassination. Short US history lesson follows. In 1890, while Speaker of the House, McKinley wrote what became known as the McKinley Tarifff Act. The tariffs didn’t achieve their planned impact, /1
On the other hand he believes Leo Czolgosz was motivated by his hatred of tariffs so there may be a silver lining in all of this.
