MLS vs USSF

@THEChrisKessell

The newest rumor of the day about #MLS v #OpenCup is that @Concacaf has gotten involved and told @ussoccer that if @MLS isn't involved then USSF can not award the winner of the @opencup a @TheChampions slot.

This seems to have now turned into a regional governance issue.

Chris Kessell @THEChrisKessell

I just want to remind everyone that MLS via Soccer United Marketing has the ability to pressure @VicMontagliani and @Concacaf

MLS vs USSF

@THEChrisKessell

Let's walk through 10 things that would happen if #MLS forces @ussoccer's hand and they get their D1 sanctioning pulled and MLS chooses to operate as an unsanctioned league.

1. Every player in #MLS immediately loses their ability to play for their respective national team.

Chris Kessell @THEChrisKessell

2. Teams in #MLS can no longer qualify for @Concacaf events. @TheChampions and the CONCACAF sanctioned @LeaguesCup being two... along with obviously @FIFAcom Club World Cup being off the table as well.

Chris Kessell @THEChrisKessell

3. MLS would lose all power, say, and privileges associated with being a USSF member.

4. The referee situation they are facing right now would get considerably worse.
@THEChrisKessell

5. This one is speculation but... I have a feeling every single coach and player would be able to move on with zero penalty with MLS losing their sanctioning as a professional league in the US

6. I doubt @Apple would be happy

7. I doubt all sponsors and partners would be happy

Chris Kessell @THEChrisKessell

8. I doubt any city/municipality with a tax payer funded stadium deal would be happy.

9. SUM would lose considerable credibility in the market.

10. Valuations of everything would drop off a cliff.

Gorilla Talk @AtlGorillaTalk

If USSF allows MLS to skip the US Open Cup, that violates PLS, giving NASL a leg up in their lawsuit, which is ultimately designed to get rid of the PLS. If NASL wins the lawsuit anyway, then MLS could use that to justify skipping the USOC.

Chris Kessell @THEChrisKessell

Correct.

It would also get rid of divisional designations.
