An adorable google-eyed, chubby hippo. The lotus flowers on the back indicate the marshy habitat of the animal. The flowers also symbolized regeneration and rebirth as they close every night and open again in the morning. From Thebes/Egypt. Dating ca. 2040-1782 BC 📷British Museum 🏺

briefly scrolled your tl to try to figure out what kinda music you're into but came up empty handed. my stuff isn't for everybody! if you are cleaning, then the most recent record Jenny from Thebes has a song called "cleaning crew" and also the drumming on that whole album is absurdly good.

Whatever you wear, you will never look as cool as Thebe in a dress embroidered with sphinxes & deer. As a Naiad daughter of Asopus, she was much revered in Thebes. I wonder if this explains the sphinx motives. She accompanies Dionysus at the wedding of Peleus & Thetis 🏺Athenian krater 🕰️580BC 🏛️BM 📷me

Hermopolis were Thoth/Djehuty's city, named after Hermes by da Greeks who merged Thoth and Hermes, but Ramses III also had a Thoth feast in Thebes, serving mostly da same menu as yesterday to da staff, but wif added fruit bowls.

Psappho's wedding of Hector & Andromache brings to mind that stinging line from UKL "Do you believe? Do you accept the festival, the city, the joy?" Oh yes, my heart beats, the smell of myrrh cassia & olibanum, the laughing men carrying in that girl from thebes, tears of joy in her eyes.
