Renovations like the one upthread warm my heart because so many of the structures that make Athens Athens are falling apart in plain view or behind hoardings:

The top storey of what once was a mansion. It looks early 20th century to me, with elements of neoclassical and Athenian modernism. The top of a very tall portico merges into a balcony with a small room, like a cupola with a sloped ceramic tile roof in the centre, verandas on either side forming a flat roof. It’s seen over the top of a tall metal barricade covered in graffiti. There are self-sown trees all over the lot.
