発信機の小型化については門外漢です、すいません！どんな電波を使うかしだいですねえ。BLEとかUWBの信号をただ周囲に飛ばすだけなら今もTileやAirTagがかなり小型化できているように、弾丸並みの大きさのものがあってもおかしくないです。これだと通信範囲が2-300mが限界ですし細かいことは出来ないので、やりたいことが複雑化すればするほど発信機は大きくなるでしょうね。

GPSで思い出したけど、ちなみにAirTagもめちゃくちゃ一般人には誤解されています。アレはGPS受信機ではないし3G通信機能もない、あのビーコンから単に周囲にUWBという信号を放っているだけです。ではどうして位置が分かるか？なんとみなさんのiPhoneがそれを受信して、信号の位置をAppleのサーバに送ってるんですよ。知ってましたか？こんなことが可能なのは世界中の都市部でほとんど隙間なくiPhoneユーザがいてメッシュネットワークが構築されているからです。すごいでしょう。
