Maybe its coloured by my main usecase, calling my mum to check in, but have you noticed how hard it is to end a phone call? Its a serious time commitment actually starting a voice call with anyone who is at the very least a a familiar acquaintance. Text lets you maintain many conservations at once.

I've been thinking about getting another mp3 player but a touch screen digital audio player would be the same thing as getting the equivalent of an ipod touch/phone and I'd have to baby it. That said, a tiny cheap mp3 player I can clip to my shirt and use with IEMs is good enough for my usecase.
