The NG just last night tracked down in-law family on the side of a mountain, sent loved ones verification of safety, them a few hours later helped get the VZW tower that was offline bad up so same family could finally speak over phone.

I’m the guy who asked ChatGPT what it thinks of the lack of fact-checking at the CBS VP debate and their dumbass excuse that Vance and Walz should be the ones fact-checking each other. 🤖

The decision by CBS to avoid fact-checking during the vice-presidential debate and instead place that responsibility on the candidates reflects a broader trend in media toward prioritizing neutrality over accountability. This approach allows networks to avoid accusations of bias, but at the expense of informing viewers. When moderators choose not to fact-check statements, it can give candidates like J.D. Vance, who has been known to spread misinformation, an opportunity to mislead the public without immediate challenge. Effective fact-checking is essential for ensuring that debates provide clarity to voters rather than confusion, especially when one candidate’s statements are unreliable or intentionally misleading. Without it, viewers may lack the necessary context to discern the validity of the claims being made.
By outsourcing this responsibility to the opposing candidate, CBS diminishes its role as an arbiter of truth, which can lead to a less informed public. The purpose of moderators is to facilitate fair discussion and verify information, and failing to do so is a disservice to voters. In debates, each candidate’s role is inherently biased, and their priority is not truth but victory, making third-party verification crucial. The statement by CBS, therefore, seems to sidestep their obligation to provide clear, accurate information in an effort to avoid political backlash. This failure to fact-check may foster cynicism, reduce trust in institutions, and hinder voters’ ability to make informed choices based on factual content.
