I had a similar experience at the Whitney. I can still see a Jasper Johns flag to one side, Warhol Brillo boxes on the floor, and this massive Rothko. And as I stood there looking at it, vertiginous waves of grief and despair just washed over me. I almost swooned. Nothing like it before or since.

I do not need separate theories to explain Elliott Rodger's killings, the shooting of Andy Warhol, the murder of Emmett Till, the Salem Witch trials, etc. Each of these stories involves murder, motivated partly or entirely by sexual revulsion. None of the killers I mentioned were normal about sex.
