Who loves Gray Treefrogs? 🙋🏾‍♀️ I find it pretty amazing that frogs can survive Canadian winters. 😍🐸

Context below. Basically the Tollense valley was a wetland, across which someone had constructed a walkway. And then a big battle occurred, apparently between two very different groups - neolithic locals vs bronze age visitors. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tollens...

I haven't seen anything that says which counties. But mine has lots of dairy CAFOs, lots of giant chicken houses (Foster Farms used to have its HQ here), and a major stopover wetland for migratory birds 🙃

Failure to regulate can hurt people. Construction industry influenced Republicans in NC legislature to reject regulations that could have lessened the damage from Hurricane Helene: updated building codes, wetland protection, increased home elevation etc www.nytimes.com/2024/10/03/c...

NC lawmakers have rejected limits on construction on steep slopes, blocked requiring homes to be elevated, weakened wetland protection, and slowed the adoption of updated building codes, making it harder for the state to qualify for federal climate-resilience grants. www.nytimes.com/2024/10/03/c...

Mas não sei também se todo humedal é um pantano. Porque nem toda wetland é um swamp. Tem isso também que eu não considerei.

A tufted flycatcher perches atop a broken trunk. It's a small bird with a rounded body and a large, medium-length tail. Its wings feature a black and white pattern. Its back is a dark olive color, while its belly is lighter. The breast, throat, and face are a light brown, and the upper head boasts a small crest of green feathers.
An American bittern stalks through a wetland, walking between dried plants above the water. The bird has an elliptical body and a large, thick neck nearly as long as its body. Its beak is large for hunting beneath the water's surface and features a plume with alternating patterns of light chocolate brown on its back and streaks of cream color that fade towards its head. The front of its body is a light color with finer streaks of white running along its body.
A killdeer stands on a sun-drenched grassland. It's a small bird with an upper tail, wings, and back of a brownish-gray color. The underside, including its belly, lower tail, and breast, is white. It has four alternating rings of black and white on its neck and a distinctive facial pattern. This pattern features a white patch near the upper side of its beak, a brown cap on its head, white patches behind its eyes, and a black streak that extends from above its caramel-colored eyes, connecting both

NEW: I've received evidence of an arrest for illegal
geese harvesting in Springfield, Ohio. But it wasn't
a Haitian immigrant who was arrested. It was a
white man named Brian Comer, who shot two
geese with a shotgun on a golf course.

 Statement of Facts
On September 10, 2024 at 3:50 pm, I State Wildlife Officer, Jeffery P. Wenning, spoke with the complainant, Michael Dudley,
regarding his observations at the Rocky Lakes Golf Course. Dudley stated that he observed a white male, in his late fifties or
early sixties, who was heavy set and riding a lawnmower, get off of the lawnmower with a shotgun and shoot two geese near
 water on the course.
Dudley continued, saying the man picked up the first goose and tossed it into the weeds. The second goose was wounded and as
he collected it the man twisted it breaking its neck. This goose was disposed of in the same manner.
It is unknown if the man possessed a hunting license, wetland habitat stamp, migratory bird stamp, or HIP certification at the
time he killed the geese. Also, Dudley's observations place a loaded firearm on the motor-driven conveyance. It is unknown if
 the shotgun was plugged
