“And… go!” Abigail thrust her palms out. “Go!” Another thrust also did nothing. A growl emanated from her throat as she made various gestures. “Come on! Why isn’t this working!”
“What are you doing?” She whirled around, throwing aside loose hair to see Tristan–the ship’s cook, leaning against the gym door, odonata wings at rest.
“Since we’re not relocating soon, I've been trying to get that specific magic I used on Ostio again,” Another thrust of the palms. “It doesn't… want… to work!”
“You look tired. Come on, food's almost ready.” He stated.
“It's war,” His wings buzzed. “The empire won't just give us time to let me get where I should be. Especially if I can bring out a power like that again.”
“You're only going to hurt yourself if you think magic is a power to be controlled.” Tristan pointed out. “Take a break, you've earned it anyway.”
Abigail huffed as she recognized the weakness flooding her body. “I guess.”

Kani purred as it got acquainted with the Comet's hangar bay later that night. It clucked against the other's sounds, eagerly introducing itself to the other two thaulms.

Fedir turned his gaze from the hangar area, Abigail caught on the receiving end of a stern talking to by the tech crew as he moved from earshot.
“Thanks again for helping me, Casey.” He held out a hand to the asian woman currently averting her eyes from him.
“Yeah. I don’t think I deserve it.” She brushed the hand away. “I saw the person you saved from the fire. Common safety gear isn’t designed with attunements in mind. They’d… we'd rather let people die than spend money for applicable safety gear. I stayed ignorant all this time.”
“It was your information that got me away from the militia.” He reminded.
“I guess I need to do some soul searching now that I’ve also been terminated.” She said. “My main goal; do better.”

Fedir threw the machine into a kick, impacting on the shoulders of the barghest and twisting the body in with an audible crack coming through his cockpit speakers. The death throes still let the hooves crash onto the ground, one last fire wave now screaming across sandy terrain. His face fell in horror as he saw the target. “No!”

Abigail noticed the wave of fire in her peripherals, speeding towards the refinery. She finished off her target as fast as she could, switching to the projector. She fought through the tiredness in her body and reached into the universe as quickly as she could gather. “Glaciere!" It was too late. The ice beam missed, freezing the dirt behind the wave.

The magic fire impacted on the first container, starship hydrogen igniting a spectacular chain reaction; a raging inferno soon enveloping the whole complex.

Fedir craned his neck as he badly recovered from an unsuccessful kick.
“Oh, those are Barghests,” He weaved around, perforating the target before he saw the beast raise its front hooves at the last second. “Evade!” The hooves slammed down.

Magic shot into the ground, a wave of fire slamming right into the walker.

Abigail coughed as the heat went right through the cabin’s seals, the displays blinked off in an instant.
“Warning; armor integrity compromised. Warning; heatsink efficiency, fifty percent loss. Unable to discharge. Emergency shutdown.” A coughing fit was the only reply she could give.

“I’ve been here for at least fifteen years.” Robin explained. “The Federation wants to consolidate magic training into the military. Bigger academies can withstand their funding reallocated better, but everyone’s hit hard. Even so, I enjoy working here, in this smaller academy. It feels like I can pass my experience as a retired caller down to others in a way that feels right.” Abigail didn’t mention the audible somberness in her tone. “Here, take them both for free. I don’t mind helping someone who traveled all this way for nothing.”
