I missed #WorldOctopusDay on Oct 8 and didn’t consider Indigenous Peoples’ Day a promo opportunity on Oct 9, but TODAY you can celebrate them both by getting Weird Fishes (or requesting from your local library) 🦭❤️🐙🌊 www.stelliform.press/index.php/pr...

We had an absolutely delightful book launch on #WorldOctopusDay for THE LIVES OF OCTOPUSES AND THEIR RELATIVES! The seats were filled and the books sold out. Many thanks to Books Inc in Campbell and to the enthusiastic, engaged audience of all ages!

A closeup of Danna in her mimic octopus costume, face uncovered, in the midst of talking and gesturing with her hands. The back of some audience heads are visible in the foreground and the word "octopus" is visible on the projector screen next to her.
A shot from the back of the audience during Danna's talk at a bookstore. Children's heads are visible in the front row, and heads of adults, some gray, are visible further back. Danna is gesturing in her mimic octopus costume, and on the projector screen is a photograph of Cirrothauma murrayi, the blind cirrate octopus, a dramatic shot against a black background.
Danna begins her presentation in the bookstore, wearing her mimic octopus costume, but with the face covering rolled up to her forehead so her face is visible, smiling. A Books Inc bookseller stands behind her, and several children are visible from the back sitting in the audience.
Danna Staaf stands in a bookstore in front of a projector screen with an octopus on it. She is dressed in a full-body mimic octopus costume: black and white striped tights on her legs, similarly striped stockings on her arms with finger holes cut out, and four additional stockings stuffed and pinned to her sides and connected to her arms with fishing line. Her face is also covered with a striped stocking with two protrusions on top of her head decorated to look like octopus eyes.

#worldoctopusday Last month when I was snorkeling I saw movement and looked into a crevice, and saw this beautiful octopus sleepily studying me. This is a common octopus (Octopus vulgaris). This species lives throughout the Mediterranean and North Atlantic. West Palm Beach, FL. 📸Olympus TG 6

October 8th is #WorldOctopusDay To celebrate, here are some of my favourite octos! #OCTOtober

A flapjack octopus (Opisthoteuthis sp.) sitting on the seabed. It is adorable, small and squishy, like a mango ice cream scoop with itty bitty "ears" which are its fins. It is twisting two of its arms together like it is rubbing its hands together.
Violet Blanket Octopus (Tremoctopus violaceus) with it's webbing tucked away and being held in a person's hands
Coconut Octopus (Amphioctopus marginatus) sitting in the empty shell of some bivalve. Most of it is contained in the shell, except for one arm spilling out the side. It is brown with orange on the bottom/sucker side. One of its arms are lifting the shell open and it is staring at the camera with a passive aggressive look.
A giant Pacific octopus (Enteroctopus dofleini) displaying a rich, deep red colour. It's papillae is extended, resulting in their skin being covered in bumps, and it's suckers are visible.

Today is World Octopus Day! This day not only celebrates the various cephalopods as well as their amazing physiology but it also marks the awareness of octopuses are at risk for overfishing and declining populations. #InternationalOctopusDay #OctopusDay #WorldOctopusDay

#WorldOctopusDay I had so much fun forming this Octopus holding a bowl out of clay. Hopefully it will stand the burning process.
