I'm setting up a new yubikey 5 (usb type a) because one site i use doesn't like the old one anymore. a couple notes from the process: - my google workspace account has separate options to set up the yubikey as a security key or passkey. my consumer gmail only seems to allow passkey mode. (1/2)

A boa prática manda comprar duas. Uma deixa em casa, etc. outra no chaveiro. Uso Yubikey para Gmail, Proton e pro iOS.

im a huge fan of yubikeys, but also i wish we had more mainstream options for yubikey jewelry like earrings, bracelets necklaces, belly rings etc

and keeping at least one yubikey on me at all times is trivial with my keychain backup, and i haven’t hit any snags with this setup in like a year of use

so i moved all of my one-time codes for accounts that don’t support passkeys or hardware tokens to the yubikey and out of my password manager to make them an actually separate factor that behaves essentially like a yubikey itself

i'm gonna be honest i don't want to have to carry my yubikey with me all the time because that seems like a hassle (although a second factor for bitwarden on my phone would be nice) but having them as a second backup in case my phone with 2fa codes breaks does seem very good.

oh also you can add a passphrase to secure the various yubikey features, as well as use yubikey+pin login for macs as an alternative to a password
