In the '90s me and my friends used to go to CA West (Club Anime West) to watch untranslated anime while a guy live interpreted it at the public library in Japantown in San Jose (because we were cool teens and not giant nerds) and at lunch we would go to Nikaku Animart to buy art books and manga!
