Stiff spike-primrose (Boisduvalia stricta) is an uncommon plant growing in the margins of vernally wet areas in the east Gorge. While not showy, Native Americans used the seeds as food. It's in the evening-primrose family. It blooms in summer to early fall.

Stiff spike-primrose description: Annual, the stem 1-5 dm. tall, usually branched from the base, spreading only slightly, grayish with dense, soft, straight hairs.

Leaves:
Leaves alternate, numerous, evenly spaced, linear or narrowly lanceolate, entire or remotely denticulate, 1-4 cm. long and 1-2.5 mm. broad.

Flowers:
Flowers axillary and sessile, the floral bracts similar to the leaves but smaller and entire; calyx tubular, 4-lobed; petals 4, borne on the calyx, pink or purplish, about 2 mm. long; ovary inferior, 4-celled; stamens 8, of two lengths.

Its baseball playoff time again. So, it’s time for your annual reminder that every time the Phillies win the World Series economic calamity happens.

I didn’t get much reading done in July—September. Mercy of the Gods was the only miss for me, but I’ll still pick up the next one in the series.

A handful of books on display with the book spines facing the viewer. From left to right the books are “They” by Kay Dick, “The Vorrh” by B. Catling, “The Mercy of Gods” by James S.A. Corey, and “The Annual Migration of Clouds” by Premee Mohamed.

One of the towns around here has an annual fundraiser for the fire department, and it's advertised on the local radio. The ad has sirens in it. Such a refreshing, stimulating sound to hear out of the back speakers of the car.

It's your quasi-annual reminder thgat the Korean national character played by a Japanese-American character Oddjob was coded as a stereotypical 90s rapper in the cartoon James Bond Jnr for some reason.

Over my years of my living in KC, there have been two incontrovertible traditions without which Halloween just wouldn't be the same. One is Nerdoween, happening in two weeks, and one is @elijahlafollette.bsky.social#AnalogSunday Double-Creature, coming up just one week from tonight!
