"A remarkable bird from New Zealand. The apteryx (Apteryx Australis). Saturday magazine, no. 370, April 7th 1838." The article talks about the scientific consensus in Europe- that the kiwi was either extinct or imaginary. Ref A-436-009 National Library of New Zealand.
Archaeopteryx fan, too! One the reasons is that the kiwi's scientific name is Apteryx. Which, at least in my mind, is like a condensed/ shortened version. I note the irony of linking one of the first flyers, with a non-flying extant dinosaur. But 🤷🏻♀️
Grammar note: Homo sapiens: Kiwi, Kiwis Apteryx spp: kiwi, kiwi Actidinia cvv: kiwifruit, kiwifruit
