特 in later Chinese means something like "specially chosen, selected, distinguished, etc." But it's used in the Book of Ritual (Liji) and even in the Shiji (Sima Qian's history) as a verb meaning sacrifice. In the context of the poem, there's a high chance that this association is intended.
Other bit of questionable translation here is 特, 防, 禦 in association with 百夫之. The 百夫之 bit definitely means "hundred men's" or something like "multitude's," but the other three characters are iffy!
