today marks attempt four (4) at writing this short story with a protagonist who is empowered and makes choices and affects their own fate rather than a hapless soul crushed by inevitibility in a universe barren of justice ...we'll see how this goes lol

I left the sheltered nooks and the trees being me today and focused on the two main Westray Headlands - Noup Head and Bow Head - open and barren! A handful of Wheatears and a single Redwing the only migrants plus Peregrine, a couple of Merlin and Kestrel. #WestrayBirding#UKbirding

Someone should make a cog for Red Discord Bot to post BlueSky posts to Discord. I used to do this with Twitter, however as I do not use that website anymore my social media post channel has been barren haha

These campsites could not be more barren or pathetic. It's the Mad Max world, nobody 'has' anything properly. Everything's welded together, and so these punks that you have to kill are usually like in the middle of making a Sterno meal over a fire. Maggots are one of the primary energy regenerators.

LOL. No revision needed! The term “mulatto” was based on the belief that biracial people were barren, like mules. Mixing the races created a person that surely wasn’t a person like the rest of us. Racism is wild.

Here's an aerial before/after, this is absolutely a criminal act against Ontario residents. I hope people remember this in the next election. Source: ion.cesium.com/stories/view...

Satellite images showing the before/after shot of Ontario Place. In the before, the site is covered in trees/greenery.

In the after, the site looks like a bomb was dropped on it, and it's almost entirely barren.

I thought this was a fascinating 🧵 from a historian (especially for me as an Episcopal priest who served two parishes in the Low Country ⚓️):

Screenshot of three tweets by Katy Telling:

Sophia Hume left Charleston, converted to Quakerism, moved to London, and then came back to her hometown in the 1750s to drop two 100+ page-pamphlets to say “you are vain and bad and I don’t mean to specifically chastise Anglicans but I especially don’t like Charleston Anglicans”

It’s not lost on me that a few years prior to her epistle and exhortation, Hume wrote to her daughter pointedly remarking on how many of their elite Anglican Charleston friends abandoned them after the family lost a considerable amount of its fortune.

And then spent 150 pages saying “actually worldly goods are the source of misery and you have a barren spiritual life compared to my new life of austerity.” I don’t doubt the strength of her religious convictions post-conversion but, as always, context matters!

Called out

In Cartoons from Christopher Street by Charles Ortleb and Richard Fiala 1978

Illustration: A scientist examines a series of mice in cells, most of which are barren, but one of which is chilling in lavish style. The caption reads “A scientist discovers homosexuality among his laboratory mice.”

Franz RĂśsel von Rosenhof, 'The Earth after the Fall of Man' (1690)

Rasmus KjĂŚrboe: It shows what happened when Adam and Eve ate from the Tree of Knowledge. From all creatures living peacefully side by side in plenty, to a barren world ravaged by murder and mayhem. These are moral object lessons; not zoology. Obviously the artist did not study living animals, but copied older sources instead. In the depiction of Earth, animals from every corner of the world mingle with imaginary creatures. On the threshold of the modern era, belief in Christian traditions had become more abstract. Perhaps von Rosenhof's paintings do not so much convey a religious message as they provide a humorous illustration of the philosopher Thomas Hobbes' (1588 1679) thesis that without sovereign government we risk a war of all against all. // lesenswert (zum Tierfrieden): https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tierfrieden
