I went to the #ChicagoBotanicGarden for the second time this week ... I can't stay away, especially with this weather!

Drawing #invertebrates next to a lake with a large fountain in the center at the Chicago Botanic Garden
A beautiful fruiting bonsai with smooth gray bark-covered roots that are hugging a rock.
A blooming lotus in the sunshine against a backdrop of lily pads
The never open flower of a banana tree growing down out of and below a bunch of bananas high up in the canopy

Spent some time at the Chicago Botanic Garden #ChicagoBotanicGarden

A tiny little squirrel with its long tail stiff as a board looking at me looking at him through some bushes at the Chicago Botanic Garden
A teeny tiny little orange skipper butterfly-type-insect sipping nectar of a tiny bright blue flower
A chubby bumblebee with a jet black fat butt (thorax) sipping nectar in the sunshine
Some bumblebees on beautiful flowers (Blue? Purple? IDK I'm color blind 🤷🏻‍♂️) sipping nectar in the sunshine.

another day, another dahlia. #photography#chicagobotanicgarden spotted this one calmly standing in a bed of dahlias. like it had it's own spotlight. stupendously symmetrical. irony alert: no such thing as 'another day, another dahlia.' there can't be enough dahlia days! photograph.

photograph of a deep pink dahlia, nearly fully open. taken at the chicago botanic garden. the perfect symmetry you see in dahlias always gets to me. When in art school, i read the book 'The Power of Limits: Proportional Harmonies in Nature, Art, and Architecture.' Highly recommend it to anyone/everyone. Especially good if you are feeling disconnected from the world. Nature particularly. A reminder, proof really, that there is an overriding intelligence to it all.

rose mallow #photography#chicagobotanicgarden this was growing near the top of the waterfall. i thought it was a hibiscus plant, but it's not. it's a relative called swamp hibiscus. it's common name is rose mallow. a nice surprise up there. photograph.

shady waterfall #photography#chicagobotanicgarden i haven't been nearby in a while. this is a constructed waterfall. it empties into the lagoon. there's a path that takes you to the top. i used to climb up to sit at the 'headwaters' and just think. the sound of water is such a help. photograph.
