I love coatis! Met a whole pack of them in Costa Rica 😍 I of course didn't feed them but I suspect someone had, unintentionally or intentionally, because they came quite close to me.

A racoon-like animal with fuzzy whiskers, shiny dark eyes, and a longer pig-like snout. It's grey with white "mask" and nose, darker paws.

"Cousin to the familiar raccoon, White Nosed Coatis (Nasua Narica) are a common type of mammal that’s found throughout all of Costa Rica, and it’s a fan favorite here at Cloudbridge Nature Reserve. Most often, these (fat) house-cat sized animals are seen either foraging around the forest, or climbing trees in search of delicious fruits and insects (sometimes, they may try and invade our compost and cheat their way to a meal). Many times, such a charismatic animal may be overlooked, as it’s initial behavior doesn’t seem to be anything too special. How can an animal that looks so similar to a raccoon really be that unique? However, the more we learn about coatis, the more we’ve discovered how complex their lifestyles are."

Today's Spirit Guide is Kinkajou! 😄 Also known as Honey Bears, these omnivorous mammals belong to the Procyonidae family with relatives such as coatis and raccoons. Spiritually, they represent intelligence, gentleness, and open-mindedness towards abstract concepts. ✨️

#Birds of the Day: White Hawk, Belize These raptors are opportunistic hunters. White hawks will follow capuchin monkeys & racoon-like coatis through the forest, snatching up disturbed lizards, snakes, & other small animals. They also are drawn to wildfires, hunting animals fleeing the flames.

a tight shot of two coatis, a blonde and a black one, in the grass with a very green bokeh’d background. the black one is very low to the ground and the blonde one has its front paws on it pushing up into the air a bit. it looks like either the black one is curled up against the blonde one or the blonde one is riding on its back. it says ‘good morning’ at the top

We had coatis...probably a little later than that. We even had a ginger one, and then the night we went to the Asian al a carte there was one drunk in front of the doorway (they would steal any abandoned cocktails). They were delightful.
