I think in another twenty or forty years you are going to be seeing the same sort of Christians who talked up ecumenism in their youth start excluding anti LGBT Christians the same way they would ones who rejected the full communion of Black people or the authority of women clerics.

I think pop ecumenism is a totally reasonable approach to Faith, for shallow minded folks who don’t want to do any homework or research. Any kind of decent moral compass is better than nothing, surely.

I guess the silver lining is he could have taken that in a much worse direction. This is the third homily he’s given on ecumenism. He is not happy about the pope’s comments.

I feel like I got the equivalent version of the Needle is a Jerusalem Gate homily today. It was along the lines of when Jesus says children, He’s actually talking about those new to their faith and how we need to cut off those who preach false ecumenism and are stumbling blocks to the faith.

That could be allowed in the spirit of ecumenism. The big thing would be doing anything related to other non-Catholic forms of communion.
