It is obviously an imagined past, but where do they get this? Is it in popular culture, TV, cinema and online articles about a past idyll? "Back in the day, we didn't lock our door" thing, etc. Eveyone was afraid of nuclear war in the 70s how was that better? (1 quick example )
idk maybe i'm just dumb but i feel like the two skills you need are the ability to make a rational argument for your beliefs and also the knowledge on how to exert power, and the latter begins where the former fails. i'm mostly have trans people in mind with this, but i think it applies to eveyone
