The key is to keep in touch with the language somehow, through movies, music etc! That’s most inportant part! It also helps that i have been part of many internacional fandoms so i had to work my writing as well

There are exceptions, but there's plenty of stories that I adore but just don't interact at all with the fandoms because of some popular ship taking up most of the fandom brain space. Persona 5 is the biggest example. Trying to be a fan of that game while not liking akeshu is Hell.
