It's also kind of ironic that in like 2011 a segment of fans tried to get Gunn pulled off the first GotG because he'd done a really sexist article ranking female comics characters.

The GotG movies are popcorn funtimes, but they are *distinctive* popcorn funtimes with a particular voice and that's why they work. To think you could do it without Gunn (and the cast, who were talking about leaving with him) because some internet blowhard said so is delusional in the extreme.

you can really see this with GotG, which is a top five marvel movie and probably the best trilogy of movies they've done, but is based on a reboot of D-list characters

It feels a lot like the GotG game, where it was generally reviewed well, but ended up subscription filler for PS+/GamePass/Epic free game of the week, etc. The people who might be on the fence know it's coming to something like that sooner than later.
