You might have witnessed cat statues beckoning, especially in asian-oriented area. The origin of those 'beckoning cat' is not China nor other asian countries but is a temple named 'Goutokuji' in Tokyo Japan is. It is from a cat on the temple gate beckoned Samurais in so they could avoid heavy rain.
