An amazing opportunity to learn how to read hedgerows and get some hands on experience in the art of traditional #hedgelaying#Suffolk@johnmitchinson.bsky.socialunbound.com/books/words-...

I have learned about the existence of hedgelaying and now it is all I want to know how to do.

Coppicing, hedgelaying and baked tatties. Now home smelling of bonfires, with a bundle of coppiced hazel poles for the garden.

Great day hedgelaying near Horrabridge, a decent stretch finished by a small group. It was a tad wet. Like, soaked through to your underwear wet.

A laid Devon hedge, lengths of hazel lying flat on top of a bank of earth.

Back out hedgelaying tomorrow under the excellent tutelage of Jeremy Weiss of Proper Edges ("I'm half Swiss which explains why I like cheese, chocolate and arriving on time"), on training supported by the Dartmoor Hill Farm Project.

A laid hedge by the side of a field of grass, cut material stacked to the side.

Lovely day for a bit of hedgelaying at Horrabridge yesterday.

A double rainbow over a field of grazing sheep
A hedge before laying, tall upright shrubs and trees

I see pollarding of some domesticated trees locally and hedgelaying on various nature reserves
