#InsertAnInvert2024#Manestèque Here it is during the process. The pink will be black, the green should be pink, no idea what the combination does.

Week 3 of October for #insertaninvert2024 - a dragonfly-rider about to go on patrol (owing to time constraints I cheated a bit, this is an older piece that fit the prompt).

From the moment I saw the sun on the wings of this wasp, I was excited to paint it. I'm glad I got the chance, to start, today! #wasps#watercolor#bugsky#gardening#insertaninvert2024

#InsertAnInvert2024 Eyes - Compound eyes Compound eyes are made of many lens eyes packed together, giving the animal a wider vision and the ability to detect fast movement. This eye arrangement can greatly range in numbers, with Australia's petaltail dragonflies having up to 24k little eyes. 🎨 🐡

The #InsertAnInvert2024 prompt lens eyes made me think of trilobites. 🐡🧪 Not only do they have the earliest complex eyes we know of with their compound eyes with separate clusters of photo receptors (or ommatidia) each with its own lens to make mosaic-like pictures in their brains, but 🧵1/n

This is one of a series of prints of one of the ubiquitous and wildly successful trilobites, prehistoric creatures which lived for hundreds of millions of years, carved by hand in linoleum, printed onto lovely Japanese washi papers and collaged with papers in different colours. This trilobite was a Cheirurus ingricus which lived during the Late Cambrian through the Early Devonian era. This print is on charcoal coloured paper with imbedded fibres, with the trilobite headed down towards the right corner with front and back on sand coloured paper. Each of many segments is on varied washi in pinks, yellows, blues, turquoise, purples, orange, red and more, predominately pale, pastel colours.

Would Sacoglossa eye spots be fine for "lens" ? Cyerce nigricans This one is rough, I wanted to try nerikomi so each scale is colored through the clay, with a cane technique, but the whole could be more refined. Paper porcelain clay #InsertanInvert2024#SciArt#Ceramics
