So hereās the thing. Iāve got a newborn and a toddler, low water pressure, a newly over seeded lawn, and no formal irrigation system. Or experience. I didnāt foresee having to run outside every 10 minutes for the next 3 weeks to reposition the sprinklers, and my wife is getting pretty tired of it too. Iām trying to do everything I can to reduce the total number of times I have to run outside. Bluetooth valves are on the way so I can turn them off when babies need attention and I canāt go outside. So the million dollar question:
1960 BCE, and while my neighbors tell me the world has moved on to a new Classical era, we're still over here figuring out the wheel and irrigation
"These measures can begin to shift the US energy system toward a progressive, post-neoliberal paradigm that recognizes the strategic nature of energy as a public good" Really clever new @rooseveltinstitute.bsky.socialrooseveltinstitute.org/publications...

Thank you so much! I get a LOT of sun in my apartment (I ran a solar irrigation system all summer. I'm on the 7th floor) so this all helps. Gonna toss stuff into my expensive amazon wish list.
"When nitrogen limited fields are targeted ... yield gains are predicted to double. When nitrogen and irrigation co-limitations are targeted ... yield ... tripled." Lots of potential to raise yields in Indian rice production with tried and tested technologies. www.nature.com/articles/s41...
Rice production in India is a foundation for global food security, but strategies for sustainable intensification are uncertain. By combining large-scale surveys with predictive modeling, the authors ...
Yeah one of my favorite ideas is slapping solar on mountaintop removal sites or floating on reservoirs. Lake Mead, Salton Sea, Potholes Reservoir, irrigation canals, etc. Lots of space, reduces evaporation, cools the water, existing grid connections, not exactly natural landscapes
The main problem is that the water isn't really going directly to the cows it is going to grow alfalfa in a desert. If they just imported the feed from states where stuff grows without the need for so much constant irrigation there probably wouldn't be a problem with water.
