In Polish, a ladybird is often called "boża krówka" - God's little cow. Even more confusing, taxonomically speaking! 🐞 🐮 🐦

Ah, but fun fact: "Ladybird" comes from "Our Lady" aka The Virgin Mary, who in Medieval art was usually portrayed wearing a red dress. So it's not quite as confused as you might think.

Took a couple of American friends to The Ladybird Gallery at @themerl.bsky.social@gralefrit.bsky.social's satirical Ladybird books to them.

A mural on a wall says The Ladybird Gallery above three pictures: 1. A field of ripe corn with poppies, 2. A thunderstorm in the distance with pink foxgloves in the foreground, 3. A few cows stand under a tree.

* What you think of as just The Jungle Book. But in those days, if you were a kid who was into a kid's film, you couldn't *just watch it*. You pieced it together from Ladybird books, sticker sets, etc etc. For Jungle Book, I had a tape, this one: www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKxr...
