How can you tell when an insect is getting old? Sometimes wings are worn/ragged, or legs & antennae are missing or broken. This dragonfly (I think a female flame skimmer, Libellula saturata) also has dark spots - necrotic areas? - on her face and legs that I think signal she's fading. #insects 🌿🐙

The Libellula wasn't strictly a pusher design as it had tractor engines on the rear wing, but it was 'tail first' with the engines aft. Martin-Baker proposed a bizarre twin-boom 'Tankbuster' in 1943 with fixed undercarriage and a six-pounder gun in the nose

Miles was very keen on the 'Libellula' layout, a variation on the canard with a fairly large, lifting forward surface, the benefit being that it could fly with a wide variation in c/g. They proposed a couple of Libellula ground-attack aircraft around this time
