I was similar. AC 2005 was coming out at the time. So, I did a bunch of research on the OG before watching a full playthrough. Based on what I read, I pre-assumed Aerith was the main love. Then I saw The Lifestream Sequence and was like, "Huh?" Researched again and found out about the debate. Lol

This is just a potential theory that doesn't contain spoilers per se. What if Sephiroth/Jenova is trying to destroy the other worlds in an attempt to bring forth Omega? And the reason they are so hellbent on controlling Cloud is to have him act as a Trojan Horse to the Lifestream?
