dude... i thought i was gonna go for a walk in the park using a bunch of liberated chromebooks with intel 7265d wifi cards to create a wifi meshnet... turns out intel hardcoded some kind of bullshit into the firmware of these things so they can't be used in AP or IBSS modes

I don't run the VPN from my router. I didn't want to do that. We have a BBox which all our French telly comes through. I loaded Nord on to that. Then with Nord selected on the box and meshnet in Nord on my phone I cast that way. Hope that helps.
