I’ve had to turn my community group into a business to be able to get enough money to be able to run a community group. It costs $713 to have a stall at the Midsumma Carnival. $713! Fair Day is like $350 How is a community group able to do outreach when it is so expensive?

3/2 And worse yet for Midsumma - they won't even get to claim they were the ones who listened. They'd just following the late-appearing conscience of Sydney's festival.
2/2 Queers,especially those who aren't middle class white cis gay men, will remember what it took for MG/Mid to finally care for the community they allegedly represent. And Midsumma will still joyfully give representation to the likes of AGL and Amazon.
The problem for Mardi Gras — and, if they follow suit, Midsumma — is that these events have been SO insistent on letting police use Pride for PR that having their hand forced by an alleged double murder isn't indicative of any real change. 1/2
