it's not an important thing, relatively speaking, about the attacks on Lebanon lately, but I am thinking about my friend Shane, who after a significant career in game dev took monastic vows and became a Jesuit theologian, and spent time with the Jesuit Refugee Service in Beirut.

The suggested era for Rosewood Abbey is sometimes between the 12th and 13th century. The Name of the Rose is set in 1327. However, I encourage people to play in whatever era they want.

Between the 12th and the 13th centuries, the Abbazia di Palissandro was a monastery at the feet of the Alps in Northern Italy.

This community is almost self-sufficient and remote enough to ignore most of the troubles from warring between the papacy, the Holy Roman Empire, and the Lombard League. The monastery managed to expand its library thanks to patrons and revenues from trading locally produced goods.

A small village has developed within a reasonable walking distance. The monks feed the poor, care for the sick, and educate a few children. Interactions beyond these monastic responsibilities are something abbey authorities frown upon but not uncommon.

The Paranirvana of Buddha, Gal Vihara, Polonnaruva, Ceylon https://clevelandart.org/art/1976.156

The Buddha's death is called the parinirvana, which signals the moment when he moves into an eternal blissful state, free of any suffering or future rebirths. This state, known as nirvana, is the ultimate goal for followers of Buddhism.

During the 8th century, a colossal depiction of the Buddha's parinirvana was the focus of worship at a monastic establishment on the island of Sri Lanka off the southeastern coast of India. By the 19th century, the site had fallen into ruins, and commercial photographer Joseph Lawton was selected by the British Archaeological Committee in Kandy, Sri Lanka, to document the site. Lawton's intentional inclusion of a Sri Lankan figure in a posture of adoration and a colonial Englishman clambering over the ruins provides a sense of the sculpture's impressive scale.

They often come to see that a regular rhythm to the day, inherent in the monastic tradition, far from limiting their freedom, enables them to live more fully...

He wore a sparse auburn beard (today only white bristles would sprout if he did not shave-poor Pnin, poor albino porcupine!) & this divided monastic growth, topped by a fat glossy nose & innocent eyes, nicely epitomized the physique of old-fashioned intellectual Russia. #Nabokov24

I'm not looking at topknot dude and thinking "Ah, a Celtic Cross. You must be a great admirer of the 6th - 8th century monastic tradition in Ireland and the West of Scotland. Big Colmcille fan, I get you." Maybe that's unfair.
