A little before Pokemania hit critical mass in ‘99, I went to a friend’s house after middle school and we all took turns playing his copy of Pokemon Red. I did one trainer battle and got his Charmander to evolve. I knew right then I was hooked.
I remember the first episode airing on I think GMTV over here and my aunt was more excited about it than I was after seeing it in the TV guide. I don't even think the games were out in the UK yet? It's hard to remember, that initial rush and first few years of Pokémania was wild.
You know it's really funny how there's at least three sapient robot media from late 90s/early 2000s that were partially created as an attempt to recapture Pokemania but only one of them was actually successful in that while the other two failed to varying degrees.
