I Begged

What a weight it was–to suddenly become the world–in the palms
of another’s hands. Gripped so tightly–beauty that cracked beneath
the pressure. My seas could not swell in the orbit of your embrace.
Under the pierced gaze of ocean-like eyes. Was a world supposed
to be so small? Possessed by one–who imposed selfish intentions.
Resources tapped for reason of love and need–yet never replenished.
You held me–for the world to see–but secretly for your benefit.
For I was yours–and well–I never owned anything. You forgot what I
asked–over and over again. Or perhaps chose not to listen.
A world is what I always was–wonderfully intricate–complicated-unique.
Until you–ripped me from the sky and made me yours in all the ways–
you needed. Then wondered why–I could no longer sustain my life.
You said your world was ending–because I asked to be let go.
Unable to remember–that I begged to never be held so tight.
