Harry Shokler worked for the Works Progress Administration in the 1930s where he helped pioneer silkscreen printmaking (serigraphy.) It provided a low-cost way to reproduce images & the process quickly took hold in the New York art community.

In this color screen print the Manhattan skyscrapers appear again, however this time they dominate the image. Their mirage-like quality overshadows the snow-capped roofs of the vibrantly-colored industrial buildings in the foreground.
