Overheard outside the grocery store just now: "Oh yeah, the weather is just beautiful here right now. It's usually snowing around here by now so this is nice." Say what now? Motherfucker, it's only October 3rd. We're nowhere near the usual start of snowy weather, even in our worst years. Calm down.
Multiple coats is the way imo!! Waterproof down parka, layerable puffer jacket and a good rain proof coat does the trick. That way you can layer against any winter weather from -20F and snowing to sleet and 42. Eddie Bauer on the cheaper end, Columbia, North Face, Patagonia on nicer end

My ‘86 mustang convertible had an overpowered heater just for such occasions. I could put the top down whenever it wasn’t raining or snowing - even then I could so long as I was driving on a highway fast enough to form a wind-shear barrier. 🙃
