I always conceptualized welding as heating 2 pieces of metal hot enough to melt them together. Then I find out it's like soldering, or maybe a hot glue gun.

I mean, someone still has to climb the pole to actually do the repair. The drone is just for inspections. Working a wrench or a screwdriver or a soldering iron with a drone would be a nightmare.

I can pass questions on to my sibling. He turned his original Xbox into a FrankenBox with oversize hard drive & repaired his Xbox 360's red ring of death. He's just generally good at repairing electronics though every case is different. Soldering isn't a difficult skill to pick up if needed.

I have been working to fix my PS2 That I got for Christmas in 2001 for the past few days, and it's taught me a lot. The fix requires micro soldering though which I'm having @rfox7sd.bsky.social help me with that cause fuck that's hard. Very excited to have this pillar of my childhood working again!
