I'm reminded of Buck Angel. Who apparently did a lot of good work for the trans community in his youth, but is stuck in the mindset he HAD TO HAVE in order to get treatment when he startef transitioning.

iirc both his parents were nature painters and he startef in that field, but then got bored and got into doing scifi stuff with realistic anatomy, and then that became a whole career
