I've found Sukhareva 1927 today: `The main difference is that for the girls, the emotional disturbances always come to the fore […] The presentation of eccentricity among [autistic] boys consists of tendencies towards superfluous abstraction, absurd rumination, stereotyped movements, and‘ →

I did found out that Sukhareva also researched AFAB autistic persons, which a lot of later research ignored, probably due to Asperger's stereotype of autistic people as boy wonders with peculiar habits, that was and is very much prevalent.

hmmm it’s not like there’s more examples than you could list of men just cribbing the research women have done or anything. also LEO KANNER actually citing her?????? Kanner was so wrong on a lot of shit abt autism as concept that sukhareva got right but at least he cited her!!!

Kanner cited Sukhareva's 1932 publication Über den Verlauf der Schizophrenien im Kindesalter in papers published in 1949 and 1962. The precise reason for her extensive research remaining uncited in the work of Asperger, who also published in German, cannot be precisely determined and is still a matter of discussion by experts.

yeah and it’s weird bc on the other hand you have stuff like how years before hans asp*rger “discovered” The Syndrome We No Longer Call That, grunya sukhareva was doing it in the ussr with respect and humanity in her work

Someone called me a name I won't repeat all bc I was correctin' their misinformation on Autism. It's important to get the information as correctly as possible. There's already too much misinformation! Let's not spread more

More girls have been diagnosed as the diagnostic criteria catches up to the science. Speakin' of the criteria, it's been around since the 1920's. A child psychologist Grunya Sukhareva was the first to identify Autistic children. Her work has gone relatively unknown & remains so even now. Her findings are nearly identical to the current criteria. In the past, the criteria for ASD was very strict & typically applied to white boys. As the criteria catches up w/initial findings, the number of diagnoses have risen. Public education & access also play a role in the increase in diagnoses. Many Auties flew “under the radar” in the past. But today more are being identified. It's not new at all. The blame goes onto racial, socioeconomic, cultural as well as gender bias as to why certain people weren't afforded a diagnosis in the first place. The onus is on the medical & psychology field not the people impacted by their (med & psych) faults.

Those who liked my talk for Maskwacis Cultural College will also find Rowan Ellis' well considered discussion valuable (though the author doesn't mention Sukhareva, Frankl, or Weiss in their history, which is fine, but I'm a history nerd): www.youtube.com/watch?v=WA9B...

Should be the "first American diagnosed with Autism died last year" Dr. Grunya Sukhareva was the first to identify Autistic children both girls and boys in the 1920s. Sadly her work is still relatively unknown but it shouldn't be
