Also, “no tax on tips” is rendered moot when employers realize they’re still on the hook for payroll taxes on those tips… and decide it’s easier to pay tipped workers a decent wage and do away with gratuity altogether, like they do in Europe.
When we had higher taxes on Corporations and the Wealthy. Now.. will the DEMS do that with their political capital come Jan.. IDK?
Local-to-me, I’d so much rather see my city taxes go to FDNY actually helping people 700 miles away than cops in subways doing nothing right in front of my face.
If you'll forgive the local-to-me angle: NYC first responders and NYS National Guard personnel, helicopters, and generators have been deployed to help in hurricane rescue efforts in North Carolina. (The first responders are a specially trained NYPD/NYFD/emergency-management squad.)
New York Task Force 1 and state resources are assisting in rescue and recovery after Hurricane Helene's devastation.
Sunk costs, historic planning narratives, beleaguered budgets & conflicted public combine to addle any process to pick a fix. I live in a northern state that favors high taxes & it struggles to cover social, safety & education needs before thinking about housing, infrastructure & emergencies.
He says he would eliminate taxes on overtime and Social Security- but usually leaves out that he would eliminate overtime pay and Social Security so there would be nothing to tax anyway
