Another lovely social event here over the weekend; an afternoon tea to commemorate D-Day. Our very talented MC Chair played The Last Post on her trumpet, and we don't think the club has ever been so silent with so many people about for the minute after. #wewillrememberthem#dday
This picture was taken on Feb 26, 1942. It is my Granddad, John Burton "Burt" Waye, and members of No 9 Section, 6th Royal Canadian Engineers, taken during exercises in England. 80 years ago approximately 4 hours after Day Day started, these men landed on Juno Beach. #wewillrememberthem
Do not call me hero, In the years that pass, For all the real true heroes, Have crosses, lined up on the grass. ~ Rob Aitchison 3/3 #DDay80#WeWillRememberThem

On this day in 1951, the 16th Field Regiment of the Royal NZ Artillery, of which my dad was a gunner, was engaged in a critical battle at Kapyong in Korea. Dad went MIA during that battle & two of his best mates either side of him lost their lives. #WewillRememberThem#ANZAC2024
