Going down the street to get some decor at Silent Hill Rusty Barbed Wire and Dirty Plastic Emporium if anybody needs anything. They are having a sale on lightly broken wheelchairs
I'm thinking of the bathrooms which are designed to make it easiest for individuals using wheelchairs, in terms of the width of the room, that the shower is just separated by a curtain, wall-mounted bars, etc.
Health minister Wes Streeting keeps going on "research visits" to Israel to bring back innovation that is "at least 10 years ahead". The innovation: An Israeli company now charges people who can't walk 2 pounds an hour to use a wheelchair at London hospitals:
we ordered 30 at the grocery store where I work. In just a few days we were down to 15. In a few weeks we had 3. We are now at zero. They were all stolen. I feel real bad for people in wheelchairs n stuff that actually need one but we offer milk crates and let everyone shop to their bag if they want
Walked past Kings’ A&E today to see an old lady waiting in the rain, while a doctor promised her a wheelchair would be coming soon to get her into A&E. So interested that Kings told @londoncentric.bsky.social that its Wheelshare scheme meant more access to wheelchairs.
That seems like such a bad solution to a problem... What about mothers with big strollers, what about wheelchairs, what about bikes and so on. I can think of so many reasons for why to not build barriers like that ... Thank you for helping remove them <3
Thanks. I got diagnosed with MS more than 20 years ago. I saw people end up in wheelchairs, being completely disabled, dying. After all these years, my MS barely progressed. I think I'm Sweden's best patient. One needs a bit of luck too.
Jim Waterston's new London newsletter has broken a story that Kings College Hospital in Lambeth is charging £2 per hour to hire wheelchairs whilst visiting hospital, with the first hour free. He goes on to note that people can wait up to 12 hours in A&E. @jimwaterson.bsky.social
I know the Tooting foxes well :) And yes, if they need money then why not make wheelchairs like park benches? I’d happily sponsor one at St George’s in my mum’s name. This frog boiling privatisation is just grimly painful.
Reading @jimwaterson.bsky.social’s excellent London Report. I was shocked to see that Kings Hospital have signed a deal with a private company to rent patients wheelchairs! Unless you arrive at A&E in an ambulance it’s £2 an hour for a chair! Issue also has a great piece on London foxes
