When I was unappropriate age to wear something like that, it would have been considered too short. But now I see people wearing sports bras alone under a suit jacket as workwear so this dress is probably conservative by modern standards.
For me the length and bare shoulders veer too casual. A sweater/shrug/jacket and/or opaque tights or leggings would make it less casual as would jewelry to make it more polished. I’m 45 & have been doing office work for decades. Workwear norms are changing & getting more casual.
A friend asked if I would be willing to volunteer for a photo shoot for a party thrown by one of the oldest queer bars in the city. Queer civic duty accomplished.
It's not a full suit, but for pants I buy vintage RL workwear on ebay and get it shortened.
I like the way that people started off with "well the prime minister has to wear a suit, it's basically work clothes", then migrated to "he's on the world stage, it has to be a good suit", it turns out it's £32k of donations and they have to go full Derek Workwear.
Everyone's outfits are so good in this movie: Polly Walker has this cherry-pink silk muffler, Michael Caine has a quilted smoking jacket & double-breasted suits, Maggie Smith has gauzy caftans & one of those dressing gowns with feathers on the ends of the sleeves, James Spader has cute 90s workwear.
Which means I spent almost my entire high school career wearing 1) all-black hand-me-down office wear from a real estate agent in her 60s who’d lost a bunch of weight & 2) thrifted clothing, much of it men’s workwear. I was angry when the clothing I’d been mocked for became trendy (grunge).
A shame eShakti went out of business. I don't dress modestly but I would occasionally like a slightly higher neck on things I intend for workwear vs. personal
