It used to seem crazy to us here in the UK that in the US people can actually go bankrupt/lose their homes etc because of healthcare costs. We've been ok since 1948 with the NHS, but lately, there's been a lot of chatter about having a US style insurance scheme. I find the idea really scary.

the US doesn't HAVE a healthcare system, it has a corrupt, and evil Health LACK of care system, for all the NHS' faults I personally think it's the best system any government has put in place. (wish we were closer to it here in AUS)

It's so weird—I don't know any regular person in the UK who would advocate a US-style system. What they want is a better(-funded) NHS. People who talk about privatizing as a potentially good idea have a nasty hidden agenda.

There are so many better privatized schemes to choose from outside the U.S. (like Switzerland for example). We have the absolute worst of possible systems.

had the same surgery twice, in the UK and then USA after emigrating, first cost me nothing, second cost me $18k before insurance and took me half a decade to pay off on a two person income, absolutely heartbroken watching the NHS get torn apart while americans fall for high tax propaganda
