My experience is that Python is good enough for most things and if you have a specific requirement it may make better sense to pick something more suited, but it needs to justify current and future time/effort spent. For most things you aren’t limited by Python itself.
Yeah “if wasUpper:” is fine. You can also shorten it to “if word.isupper(…):” if you don’t need to use the result of that (wasUpper) again.

It isn’t limited to booleans since empty strings will evaluate to False, or other “falsy” things like empty lists. So be careful if you are expecting True in these cases
Perhaps look into CLI interface frameworks. My experience with QT has been quite disappointing but it does work.
It is very much designed for that. Have you spent much time in Python codebases at all?
