We can't pretend that our sports figures, actors, and other "elites" are some sort of demi gods to be worshipped. They're flawed, often terrible humans who also achieved some sort of lasting greatness, and that should be something that we recognize in the human condition. It should galvanize us.

Pete Rose was a world class piece of shit...and he should be in Cooperstown. I think it's infinitely more valuable as a museum to be honest about baseball's history and the monsters that have made it. Put them all in, and write their misdeeds right alongside their records.
