Instead of the NES version I strongly suggest Metroid: Zero Mission, the gba remake. It's much more playable. If you want to follow chronological story order you should also check out Metroid: Samus Returns(good remake of awful gba metroid 2), then Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, then Metroid Dread
